Introduction
The UC/CLC Campus Earthquake Project was initiated as part of the Campus Laboratory Consortium (CLC) Program created by the University of California Office of the President (UCOP). The Campus Earthquake Program started in March 1996 as a partnership between four campuses of the University of California - Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, and Santa Barbara - and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The goal of the project was to estimate strong ground motion at selected critical sites and each campus selected a critical site to demonstrate the method and procedures used by the CEP. The following sites were selected:
- Rivera Library at UC Riverside (RSB)
- Thornton Hospital at UC San Diego (THSB)
- Engineering 1 building at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB)
In the first phase of the program, March 1996-April 2000, estimation of strong ground motion at each critical site was measured. The estimates were obtained by using an integrated geological, seismological, and geotechnical approach, bringing together the unique capabilities of the campus and Laboratory personnel.
