Translations
A large earthquake, preliminary estimate mb=4.04 ms=3.08, occurred near the Lop Nor nuclear test site for China. These tests were recorded by the Kyrgyzstan Seismic Network (KNET) situated approximately 1200 km away with a back azimuth of 90°. Preliminary analysis suggests this is an eathquake and not a man-made explosion.
This map shows the mainshock as a red star. KNET array stations are yellow triangles. Pakistan and Indian nuclear test sites are yellow diamonds. Blue lines are major rivers and red lines are international borders.

KNET is ideally situated to record events at many test sites in the area. Last May we recorded the nuclear tests conducted by both Pakistan and India. Click here to view a map showing a close-up of the KNET array.
