We left from Hobart, Tasmania, on the RSV (Research and Supply Vessel) Aurora Australis on 18 October 2005. It's the big orange ship; the smaller one behind it is L'Astrolabe, another icebreaker that the French use to supply their Antarctic research base. The Aurora carried about 150 expeditioners and many tons of fuel and supplies south on this voyage.
