Amery Ice Shelf Loose Tooth Monitoring 2005-2006

Once re-supply was finished, we got down to the business of preparing our equipment for the field.  We set up all twelve stations one by one in the loading bay of the science building.  Each station contains a seismometer to measure vibrations created when the tip of the ice rift cracks and grows, and a GPS unit to measure the motion of the ice shelf around the rift to a fraction of an inch.  These 'icequakes' happen in bursts that occur about once every week or two, and the GPS units see the rift widen at the same time.
