Amery Ice Shelf Loose Tooth Monitoring 2005-2006

We had trouble finding sunny days to work at Loose Tooth during equipment recovery. Thick clouds make working there impossible because the helicopters can't see the ground well enough to land -- no shadows means no ground definition. With only a few days left before the ship came to pick us all up, we ended up working in marginal conditions to pick up the last of the gear. At one site, pilot Dave Pullinger decided to throw an orange smoke grenade out the window to help him see the top of the snow and land safely.
