Amery Ice Shelf Loose Tooth Monitoring 2005-2006

We were on our way back to Davis after the final day of work at Loose Tooth, when we were forced to turn back due to a heavy storm. The nearest refuge was on Hop Island, which nobody had visited in almost two years. In the past, it has been used as a base for biologists to study the local bird populations; there are many penguins and various other sea birds nesting there. The helicopters put down and we spent the night in the "googie" hut, the big orange flying-saucer looking thing. We were fortunate to spend some time in such a beautiful, special place.
