Magnitude 4.6 quake near Borrego Springs, CA

The Anza group at the University of California, San Diego operates a broadband seismograph network consisting of 13 (+ 2) three component broadband seismograph stations centered near Anza Californa (see map).

On Wednesday, January 2nd, 2002 at approximately 04:11 (PST) we recorded a quake (preliminary ml 4.6) located near Borrego Springs, CA.If you felt the quake, the USGS would like to know. Add to the USGS "Did you feel it?" page.

This earthquake (red star) was about 100 km (~62 miles) from San Diego. Many small aftershocks were recorded. This earthquake occurred in the middle of the ANZA seismic network (individual ANZA seismic stations are indicated with blue triangles). Initial source parameters are listed below.
